I wonder if this is generalisable to other currency symbols? The sterling symbol is historically encountered with double bar, while the yen symbol is sometimes seen with a single bar when used for the Chinese yuan.
Something generalized to other currency symbols might make more sense than something specific to one character.
I'd like to see more feedback with indications of broader support.
Please register a new feature for the double-barred variant of dollar sign (sometimes called “cifrão”). This variant is preferred for many historic currencies and also for the Cape Verdian escudo . I know one could use one of cv00-cv99 but this is something that should be consistent across fonts.
Suggestion:
dbds - double barred dollar sign sbds - single barred dollar sign (for fonts where double barred is default)
