Heat set inserts hole sizes and lengths #14

CNC kitchen recommends a 3.9mm hole which means LDO should either match, or will ideally require modified parts.

The LDO kit included a couple lengths of M3 heatsets but there is only one line item in the BOM, I'm guessing pointing to the longer version?

The pockets in at least some of the printed parts aren't deep enough for the longer version though.

In the LDO kit I received, there are 2 lengths of M3 heatsets, both documented in https://millenniummachines.github.io/docs/milo/manual/chapters/40_y_axis_assembly/#xy-gantry-plate

Note

You may notice that some kits, like LDO's, come with 2 different lengths of M3 heat insert. The smaller ones are used wherever drag chains attach and the longer ones are used for everything else.

I found, everything fits perfectly. The only problem I had, was to insert the longer ones in the Anti-Backlash blocks. Because of the thin walls to the center holes, I had to insert something there, to prevent from molten material moving into the holes. But that's another story.

The drag chains attachment holes are not deep enough or the walls of the specific parts are not thick enough, to use the longer version. For the other parts, the shorter version is not strong enough, to fullfill the mechanical requirements. I think, this is the reason, LDO delivers two lengths.

However, the BOM should contain both lengths.
