[ ] Jacqueline Sly. Technical Editor, Editing Team
Jackie is a robotics mechanical engineer in the Extreme Environment Robotics Group at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. She has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Ocean Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In the past she has worked on low-cost scalable autonomous underwater gilders, an alternative power source that uses aluminum as fuel and suspension component design and manufacturing for an electric formula-style race car. She has actively been involved in STEM outreach/in-reach for 7.5 years, working with a number of groups on both the west coast and east coast. She also believes that creating (with ownership) brings joy and wants everyone to be able to access that joy and learning.
[ ] Janelle Hitz. UI/UX Designer
Janelle is a digital designer with over a decade of experience, previously working for companies like Blizzard Entertainment, Electronic Arts, and Disney. With a bachelor's degree in digital media from the University of Central Florida, Janelle's career encompasses all areas of design, including knowledge in product, web, mobile, software design, UI/UX, and branding. For Janelle, design is always about thoughtful communication though art and technology. The idea behind encouraging STEM diversity is a powerful one. Bringing people together with a common goal of educating, eliminating stereotypes, and sharing knowledge is something she passionately believes in.
[ ] Amanda Lind. Exhibit Designer
Amanda holds a BS in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in audio, and a MS in Acoustics. She is fascinated by sound waves, signal processing, and bridging the gap between capabilities promised by theory and products which humans experience. Acoustics is an inherently interdisciplinary field, and has lead her on a varied path through simulation, architectural design, and 3D spatial audio reproduction at ARUP - to design and program multichannel communication systems for autonomous vehicles at Zoox. She knows that cross-pollination is a source of opportunity, and is excited to connect over shared goals of technical efficacy and empowering culture.
[ ] Keya Vadgama. UI/UX Designer
Keya’s love for design was born after she discovered Photoshop on her dad’s computer at the age of 13. She later studied design at the York/Sheridan Program of Design in Toronto, graduating in 2015. Now, she works as Lead Interactive Designer at Pilot Interactive, where she designs websites, apps, and user experiences. She has also studied front-end web development through Bitmaker and later hopes to transition to typeface design. Keya aligns with Mind Makers because she believes that self-empowerment through knowledge and the sharing of that experience with others is imperative to a fulfilling life.
[ ] Paul Glick. Mechanical Engineer
Paul, a mechanical engineer with a focus in compliant robotic systems, is an intern at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and graduate student at UC San Diego. Inspired by biology, he researches new ways for robots to move, grip, and sense. Paul has been involved in educational outreach since high school and particularly enjoys using his own research experiences to make approachable and engaging educational content. When Paul isn't working or teaching, he is probably outdoors somewhere. Paul's own engineering career was sparked by extracurricular activities and excellent mentoring; he joined Mind Makers to help create similar opportunities for others.
[ ] Claire Griffin. Mechanical Engineering Writer
Claire is a mechanical engineer currently working at NAVSEA in conjunction with the US Navy. Her journey in STEM began with a fascination with medicine when she was very young and evolved into an interest in all STEM fields. Throughout her educational career Claire was fortunate enough to have access to several programs that allowed her to foster her interests and develop as a scientist. Having seen firsthand the impact that STEM outreach programs can have on budding scientists she is very excited to be a part of the Mind Makers project and hopes to witness the flourish of the next generation of engineers and scientists.
[ ] Lorny Pfeifer. Reviewer, Editing Team
Lorny is a trilingual, robot loving, data geek. In another life, she worked for an equity-investment startup and as consultant for PwC in Washington DC and Los Angeles. Outside of work, Lorny loves cars, robotics, and aerospace and is actively involved with organizations including the Vinetta Project and The World Economic Forum's Global Shapers LA Chapter. She's an alumni of Texas A&M University and the Fulbright Program in Austria. As a current engineer-in-training, Lorny is excited to join the MindMakers Project in making the concepts of engineering approachable and accessible to curious minds of all ages.
[ ] Tony Marshallsay. Mechanical Engineering Writer
Tony Marshallsay is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer (Professional Engineer) who has spent many years designing and supervising the installation of building services and automation systems for major construction projects in the Middle East. Tony has many interests but is mainly following developments in cosmology, extraterrestrial settlement, and means of dealing with space debris. Now retired, building on earlier experience as a secondary school teacher of STEM subjects, he has become a registered UK STEM Ambassador and has also volunteered to help Mind Makers reach their goal of giving people who, for one reason or another, have not followed the regular education route a second chance at a STEM career.
[ ] Ardiana Gavrilciuc. Engineering Essentials Discipline Lead
Multilingual with a dual degree in biochemistry/English literature and an MS from USC, Adriana has been working and writing in the biotech device industry for over eight years, bringing life-sustaining therapies safely and effectively to the global market. On the side, she has worked as a tutor, teaching assistant, and adviser in the areas of writing and STEM, equally fueling her left and right brain. A huge proponent of both nerd culture and R&D, Adriana strongly believes that science and creativity have a symbiotic relationship. She is excited to support Mind Makers in its quest for fueling curiosity, problem solving and potential within the STEM fields, redefining “hard” science as “fun”, and ultimately helping all of us become better human beings.
