[Feature]combined defense #101

I don't know if this would fit with this mod or if the mod already has it (didn't see it) but would it be possible to add True Health as an option? Players health combined with armor to show what your actual health is.

Minenash commented 1 year ago

Health in general is planned. Not 100% about the armor, because doesn't some damage type ignore armor?

Aces-and-Jacks commented 1 year ago

Potions do I think

Aces-and-Jacks commented 1 year ago

Since health isn't planned I'll close this issue then

Aces-and-Jacks commented 1 year ago

Never mind. I thought you said isn't planned. My mistake

Minenash commented 1 year ago

All's good

Aces-and-Jacks commented 1 year ago

But yeah in vanilla the only type I can think of that ignores damage is status ailments (potions and effects)

Minenash commented 1 year ago

Okay, I can probably add it then when I do all the other health ones. Though lighting is another one that ignores it

Aces-and-Jacks commented 1 year ago

But that shouldn't really be a problem cause if it ignores armor it wouldn't have to do with armor then. Or like if true health is added, which would be a combination of armor and health, if a type of damage ignores armor it'll still effect your overall health. True health would basically be your potential health

found this. Not sure if it'll help so sorry if it doesn't but someone made a calculation thingy

https://www.reddit.com/r/feedthebeast/comments/9b1ikk/an_explanation_of_defense_toughness_and_the_armor/

tho someone else said forge ads a third armor stat called AbsorbRatio so maybe not too reliable when it comes to that

Minenash commented 1 year ago

To be fair, as a fabric mod, we don't have to worry about what forge does :P

However, that source does show a problem with a "true health" value. The damage reduction of armor changes depending on the damage of the attack, so there isn't really a fixed "real" number that could be calculated beforehand

Aces-and-Jacks commented 1 year ago

Well it wouldn't be a true health I guess. More just combining the armor protection and current health...showing potential defense? Not sure how armor toughness and enchants would contribute to that.

Man this took like half an hour for my head to click. I guess wording was a bit off with this then, so more like trueish defense. Didn't realize my wording for what I was thinking different than what I was trying to say. It wouldn't be an exact defense but it'd be how much your armor with health is......and now that I think about it once you get to zero health defense doesn't really matter much anymore.

If you feel like this isn't really worth it as a feature or it's impossible to add then you can close it. Didn't really click till now. Looking at a graph also helped

Aces-and-Jacks commented 1 year ago

Thought about it some more. I don't think a true defence wouldn't make sense either so I'll close this

Aces-and-Jacks commented 1 year ago

tried closing as not planned. Sorry about the spam
