Hmm, wierd. What is Eureka?
Eureka adds a forced tech-tree: you MUST do something to unlock something better (e.g. "Smelt 40 iron and mine 20 meurodite to be able to use the melter"), when you try to use something locked the item/block breaks into other items/blocks (usally items/blocks used for the crafting recipe).
That sounds like an issue with Eureka, rather than Minestrapp, then. If I had to guess, Eureka just checks for durability to test if something is a tool, and then manually excludes certain items such as vanilla armor. There's nothing in the Minestrapp code that would signify Minestrapp's armor as tools, so I'd recomend bringing this up with the Eureka team...
I have Eureka installed and this just happened just after making a tin helmet: 2014-08-24_18 29 46 It's only supposed to happen when a tool is crafted!
