That will make the blog more snappy for people on high-latency channels.

This will become irrelevant once HTTP/2 is deployed, so no point in keeping this issue around.

Actually, no, it won't become irrelevant with deployment of HTTP/2. It's true that requests will become cheaper, but dispatching one just to fetch 26 16 bytes (current minimized size of desktop.css) will still be an overkill.
