Project still active? #76

Open brennebeck opened 6 years ago

Hi,

Is this project still active? I.e. planned support for 18.x, etc. (I see support for apach2.4 just merged, so I thought I'd ask; I'm unsure of other compatibility issues between 14-18).

i was using it on all my vpses, but its getting old are there any alternatives?

brennebeck commented 6 years ago

EasyEngine is similar. But it’s not optimized for low-resources like TuxLite is.

Let me look into what would be needed to upgrade/update to support Bionic

I am currently the sole (active) maintainer of the project. @Mins is not active anymore on this project. I am planning to continue active development on it if time permits, and would like to at least support Debian 9, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and 18.04 LTS rather soon. Help and PR's are most welcome here!

(cc @brennebeck @sander816)

brennebeck commented 5 years ago

@djvdorp in that case, does it make sense to make a primary fork? I don't have the links in front of me at the moment, but there are a couple of community efforts to move projects where the original creator is no longer maintaining, etc. and to put it in a community managed org. Or even just create a new org, I guess. Or you want to continue development here? I'm unsure of @Mins 's intent, status, etc.

djvdorp commented 5 years ago

@brennebeck @sander816 I could still not get a hold of @Mins, but I went ahead and claimed the @Tuxlite org myself already. I am not sure if I can move this repo over to there (would be ideal)?

EDIT: I can't move it over, I don't have enough permissions. But we can fork it there and put a notice here, which might be almost as good. I have been awaiting @Mins email reply since Aug 27th 2018.

I'm good with forking. That should be pretty painless and we can collab there. I assume the plan would be for we three to start as the org / project maintainers? Looking forward to getting it up and moving again! :)

brennebeck commented 5 years ago

@djvdorp is there a way for me to request membership to the org? Or can you just add me? Thanks!

djvdorp commented 5 years ago

@brennebeck I just invited you, @sander816 and @betweenbrain (and @Mins) for the org. I have imported this repo (as-is) with all branches over there, and should probably update this README that we will continue there? All others interested are welcome to join and help as well, obviously, just let me know!

brennebeck commented 5 years ago

Got it! Yeah, I'm okay with this. I just reported an issue[0] to discuss how we move the project forward. Do you want to close this out? Or keep it open so it still appears easily in this repo? (Ie default issue view is to show open issues so if someone stumbles here the issue would still appear at least)
