how to update the build to use the latest kernel 5.8.12

You'll need to edit configuration the files in config/sources/families corresponding to your board family.

@RichNeese Issues outside desktop are pointless to report since they will not be fixed here ... but perhaps we should keep this branch synced with master? Is this too complicated at this stage?

I'll try to sync with master ASAP, in order to check for potential conflicts and make it easier to merge.
