Idea so far:

Calibration by touch, rather then amount of water in the soil.

Standard:
- Top layer of soil should be dry before watering
Moist:
- Top layer should not run completely dry before watering
Dry:
- Plant can dry out completely occasionally
- Problem: how to distinguish from standard?
