The game has changed since Wrath, and it's no longer cool for Druids to wear Cloth. With Armor Specialization there's no reason any player should ever have the wrong item type on. Could we enable this at max level behind the scenes? I don't care if you're leveling, but once you hit level 50 all of your armor should be the right type.

Propose we take out the checkbox, and starting at level 50 enforce armor type by class.

So what happens when you're a freshly boosted level 90 hunter in 4xx gear, kill a rare and loot an epic-upgraded leather chest piece? I do agree that the correct armor type should always be used, however there are always edge cases...

Either way, this rarely used setting (since you would pretty much always keep it enabled) could be placed into a less prominent place.

I just did the math... yes, it's possible to have one item be better than another + 5% of your primary stat, but it's literally like a 50 iLevel jump to do so. Odds are not high that will happen.

Having everyone use the right gear > edge case where someone gets a 50 iLevel jump.

EDIT: Had this happened in Panda... it would take entry level 90 greens jumping all the way to H Garry items. It's not going to be a common event, whereas it will be extremely common for Holy Paladins to accidentally pick up cloth / mail and have it equipped (making their overall stats worse) unless they use Force Armor Type.

Another solution... would be to factor in the armor type when doing the math.

Forced Armor Type for all over 50

OR

Do the math on breaking the "set bonus" and compute if the armor is better than its replacement + 5% of the primary stat.

I think it's easier to do the former. Players should not be deviating from armor type over level 50.

Sorry... wanted to show the math. (=

At level 100... I'm a fairly freshly geared Ret Pally with 2973 Strength. 5% of that comes from Armor Specialization. So roughly 148 Strength.

I'd have to go from leveling BOE Green (worse than what I organically picked up questing)... to BEST item in the game fully upgraded to be worth breaking the set bonus.

I mean... it's possible, but it's an extreme edge case. Far simpler for user experience, to just default it to the right armor type for each class rather than hope that the Resto Shaman, Druids, and Holy Paladins figure out the addon enough to find the checkbox for "Force Armor Type."

It makes sense to have it on by default, and it's probably not changed very often, true. But I want the user to still have that choice. Sure, the common use case for the Addon is to get your best gear, and in that case you probably want to keep the 5% bonus from using the correct armor type. But if for some reason I want a set with maximum agility on my warrior, I'm not going to completely disallow leather and mail items.
