Barrier Reef Orchestra Notes
Townsville’s community orchestra
Has existed for 16 years
Not age-specific, age ranges from 15 – 73
Not happy with their current website
Made up of 4 parts (Trumpets, flutes, violins and percussion), could have
a different section on the site for these
new site
information
Upcoming concert dates on new site
Contact us page – Talk to the orchestra as either a player or community
member
Gallery page (non-static gallery)
Notes/meet the conductors
Classical-focused group
Practise is usually 6 weeks of rehearsal, 1 a week, increasing up to a
major event
Website will need to provide an event “program” of sorts
Link to social media, Facebook “Barrier Reef Orchestra”
Colour scheme – reflects characteristics of the barrier reef
Donations page (on the contact us page?) for orchestra funding – Can’t
afford to advertise on TV/paper
venue, don’t change this
us/contact us
like to attract more people, specifically a younger demographic
randomly clicking about the site
Keep site management simple – it’s a first year project
Current site content needs to be trimmed but kept
Client reflection:
Re-arrange and adjust, don’t remove whole parts of the site
Adjectives – prestigious, spunky, etc
Put yourself in the shoes of a user – what is their story?
Be goal driven
Donation details – what is the money used for?
What is the goal, what do we want to achieve, will it still be valid in a
year
People must know what the orchestra does and how they can be involved. The main goal is to promote people to attend the orchestra and its concerts. The client essentially wants increased audiences, and increased feedback (either from supporters or performers). The orchestra receives some funding by the local council and accepts donations. The client cannot afford to advertise through television, even the local press, and is rather done by advertisement banners. The performers are mainly students. The audiences are predominantly elderly people (remembering that concessions are available by the client), but also, parents of musical students. There is an important membership prospect to the concert, where performers, conductors from around the country, and audiences, are encouraged to become members. This aspect can be understood especially for the sake of having group rehearsals and the temporary activeness of performers (by forcing them to still have an attachment to the concert even after they leave). The client highlights the importance of concessions (for elderly audiences particularly as mentioned previously), and group rehearsals – both factors that demonstrates the importance of the membership aspects. There are also a wide-ranging group of individuals who can get involved; doctors, or military men. There can be up to 5,000 people who attend a concert. The client currently does not have any analytics to tracks what audiences attend concerts, making it difficult to determine the fulfilment of goals. A group rehearsal management system on the website could possibly be helpful, as the client claims that conductors do rehearsals with other performers regularly. Facebook is the only social media outlet beside the current website. Advising the client to have a Twitter or YouTube account is irrelevant. Facebook must be somewhat integrated into the website. The client claims that their performers (mainly students) waver their attendance due to their personal commitments – they are merely temporarily active. This problem is regarded as somewhat stern. The website requires a gallery (photo library). Upcoming events are to be spotlighted.
