Pressing Esc Brings You To Vanilla Title Screen #2

Specifically, pressing escape in the Multiplayer Screen, Realms, and Options Screen will all return you to the original Title Screen, and not the custom one. Edit: Also pressing escape IN the custom screen brings you to the vanilla screen.

just to add a bit more to this, if you press cancel in the world creation screen without any other worlds, it sends you back to the default menu screen instead of the modded one. really obscure problem for sure lol
