Would it be possible to trigger the player select screen from the pause menu, allowing us to switch characters mid-game?

Interesting idea. I guess you could forget passing by the character selection screen. I'm pretty sure the game will not allow that. But changing the character mid game might be "feasible". I'm expecting a ton of difficulties related to stats and items though. So I'm keeping the issue around and we might look into it one day. Thanks for the suggestion!
