I would argue against this; the bot api is currently very parasitic and insular, and filled with a ton of dota-specific calls. At this point issues with the bot api design make it very unattractive for custom games; a more general bot api without the dota-specific stuff would be significantly better. In its current form, this would just further the skew of the workshop more toward dota-like games, and within those towards the less imaginative ones.
This has been working and I really doubt it stopped working. (Not sure about dedicated servers)
@Penguinwizzard, many custom games only need bots as cannon fodder to vs, they don't need to use custom abilities/items/mechanics. Games like Dusk, The Next Generation - Hero Concepts, Dota 180 (Inverted), Dota 2 But, Dota IMBA, Dota WTF, and many many others. Having bots in these games would make them much more playable because they could be played solo or with small groups of friends, whereas now they need 6 to 10 players just to be able to play.
I don't really think its a good reason to hurt all these custom dota-likes by denying them bots, just to try to push up other types of custom games. I agree that the bot scripting would not work for other exotic custom games, but simply enabling preexisting bot for custom games, is a much easier task for Valve, than creating a new flexible AI system that can be adapted for various mods, that's a separate request.
@Wouterz90 which games is it working in? There is only two custom games with working bots, and thats because of some unknown hacky workaround, and even then its not using the bot scripting api afaik, its just enabled the default dota 2 bots.
When bot scripting was announced the potential for custom games seemed incredible, yet sadly it seems not to be so. Please consider allowing bot scripting to be used in custom games, as it will be a godsend to so many custom games struggling to maintain players.
