Generally a good idea, not sure about the overhead required for this size of project and the number of languages required.
btw: The French PR was already integrated and deployed : #4
As a language provider (pushing now #142 ) - sure this would be easier, but things as they are are probably 'good enough'
Instead of accepting changes from translators via github issues/pull-requests as done currently #142 #88, use continuous localization system, thus enabling easier way for people to translate strings in the project to other languages. Below list of self-hosted or managed FLOSS projects:
