I presume you mean "This code is provided as a courtesy and feel free to build a client in another language to share with the community." ? That's kind of vague.

Yeah, I was thinking more an MIT or even Unlicense.org

A piece of 'proof of concept' code for an API doesn't really need a license.

IANAL. Without a license you should consider it being under the strictest kind of license unless otherwise specified? If so; the readme should be enough.
