Digidesign Driver Incompatibility with Netbookinstaller #157

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. OSX 10.6.1 and netbookinstaller 8.3 RC4
2. Digidesign core audio driver (HW Not required for test)
3. Process is as follows:

i: OSX 10.6.1 installed on Dell Mini 9
ii: Install Digidesign Core Audio Driver
iii: After restart if you plug in the MBOX 2 Hardware, the driver will not
detect the hardware and in 'System Profiler' you get a strange message
where the 'Current required (mA)' shows: "Unknown (Device is not
configured)"
See Fig1.jpg

iv: The Device therefore will not recieve full power
v: Updated from NBI RC3 to RC4 and started to recieve kernal Panic
see Fig2.jpg
vi: Had to boot to safe mode and ran the uninstaller to stop the kernal
panic
vii: Reinstalled software, back to point iii.

No other USB audio hardware that I have tried has failed like this!

What netbook are you using this on?
Dell Mini 9

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
As above

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
OSX 10.6.1
NetbookInstaller 8.3 RC4
Digidesign Protools 8 and Mbox 2 Mini

Please provide any additional information below.

If someone could just explain to me what exactly NBI does to modify the
system as I might be able to figure this out myself. NBI seems to move a
lot of stuff around and access extensions in the 'Extra' Folder and not
directly from 'Extensions'

This has been proven to work on 10.5.7, I am going to test this soon and let
you
know, also I will test a MINI 10v as well.

The solution to this might be the solution to any usb device which is having a
similar issue to this

Weird

I decided to install the 10.6.2 update

I then rebooted but have not reapplied the netbookinstaller RC4

THE MBOX2 NOW WORKS!!!!!!

So I then proceeded to reapply the netbookinstaller (which your supposed to do
after
a patch) BANG kernal panic with the digidesign driver exactly the same as in
Fig2.jpg
above!!!

Come on somebody must know whats happening here, NBI is obviuosly overwritting
something the the DIGIDesign Driver requires!

PLEASE HELP

Ok So,

The same thing happens on the mini 10v.

I did a fresh install with NBI bootmaker RC4. Install osx 10.6 - no updates
applied.

Installed the drivers and they worked.

I did notice however that the bios settings would not save so I found this
article
regarding Bios always ressting unless you install NBI RC4 installer and not
just the
one from the bootmaker!!

always-resets-rc3-a04.html

Interesting...

I then applied NBI RC4 installer which I downloaded separately - on reboot
KERNAL
PANIC AGAIN!!

So into safe mode, uninstalled drivers and reboot, so OSX working again.

BIOS settings now stay too
