Since the search engine/method can reduce much of this pain, we may not need to use the checkbox and search exact phrase function. 3/22: If the search always uses proximity, then results may be equivalent. Need to test to see if results are what we expect.
Adding to the box
Though folks can do the same thing with putting quotes around their search query, I think it's awfully nice to give them a simple checkbox to include all their words as a phrase. Need to check to see if Mark Logic responds to having several words in quotes as an exact phrase search.
This has been implemented in the current BMRC database. A nice checkbox labelled "Search this exact phrase" makes the fulltext search use the whole thing as a keyword. Having one's keywords (intended as a complete entity) sliced and diced and returning a slew of useless results because of this effect is one pain point expressed by users.
