Beyond the Default

Default option: seems that sorting facet lists by number of hits would be most useful (needs to be tested), vs. alpha or some other aspect, such as size of collection...? But there are obviously other ways to display a long list!

  1. Alphabetical -- option to have ascending or descending
  2. Size of collection -- largest to smallest

Probably implement using buttons for the options or a drop down list. If there are only two or three options, possibly adjacent buttons would be easiest to use.

NO dropdowns if we can avoid it. A simpler UI element is best. Up-down arrow with a label; 2 or 3 methods. For facet/browse lists pages, default is by # of hits (count), then alphabetical. (Decades will be pre-sorted and appear differently.)

IDEA: have a Shuffle button to offer a fun way to discover new things!

Collection titles list could offer these sorts: alpha, (# of hits doesn't make sense because it's just titles --there's no data attribute to use for hits), dates in collection, date processed, size of collection.
