&:clear_line aka C-u shortcut has slightly different behaviour from Readline's one.

For example, when we use Zsh and press C-u this is what happens:

% I'm now free for consolation, and thankful to almighty Lord: at least, to one of his creations I've given freedom in this world!
% I'm now free for consolation, and thankful to almighty Lord: <C-u>at least, to one of his creations I've given freedom in this world!
% at least, to one of his creations I've given freedom in this world!

So we cleared everything behind the cursors position. This is what happens in Coolline:

% I'm now free for consolation, and thankful to almighty Lord: at least, to one of his creations I've given freedom in this world!
% I'm now free for consolation, and thankful to almighty Lord: <C-u>at least, to one of his creations I've given freedom in this world!
%

We cleared everything!

Hm, funnily my zsh's C-u works exactly like the one in Coolline, but Readline still behaves like you said.
