wrong anatomy #9245

Open PeachyPieeee opened 2 years ago

PeachyPieeee commented 2 years ago

while i was doing issue #9245 ,i found that some parts of monika was drawn wrong.

for the leaning sprite, image [leaning sprite minor error] hands should come thinner during the wrists, like this. image

for the upright sprite, image [upright sprite major error left] image here's the anatomy of her left hand right now.

reference for a clamped together hand: image now i put the order of her left hand in numbers, the thumb as (1) and pinky as (5). image as you can see,for the last visible finger, it is connected together with the right. i'm not able to determine which one is the 2nd finger, or which one is the third.

to fix it, i can do this: image [upright sprite major error left solution a] image [upright sprite major error left solution b]

solution a determines the connected finger as the 2nd finger, and adds the pinky under her right pinky.

solution b determines the connected finger as the third finger, thus making the second finger invisible.

as for the right hand, image [leaning sprite major error right] her finger is slightly broken. applying on left solution a and left solution b, image [upright sprite major error right solution] both can be applied like this, it doesn't affect the overall anatomy.

image [upright sprite minor error] as said above for [leaning sprite minor error], the wrist should come thinner during the wrists. the red lines are how should be done.

if permission is granted to work on these, i'll do it alongside issue #9245 .

I noticed something odd about the fingers too. In MAS, that top left shape is drawn as the right index finger (top image) with a visible knuckle. But I suspect in the original CG, Satchely may have intended for that shape to actually be the left index finger (bottom image).

PeachyPieeee commented 2 years ago

ahhh. thanks for the idea! although the joints are still a bit broken; based on the second one, i also think it's intended to be that way.

Hello again, PeachyPie! And hello, Hatanasinclaire!

The dev team has considered these changes.

I've been assigned to work with you (PeachyPie) on editing our leaning base arms. We're slightly worried that this could break outfits, but we want to see how it looks with outfits first. If everything looks good, these changes should be accepted!

As for the fingers... as long as the ring finger isn't touched, we think there changes could work well.

Thank you!

Also please prioritize this over the hair changes.

I have been thinking about these problems for a long time. as I make sprite packs, they are very noticeable to me.

The ideal would be to create Monika's body, in a program similar to DesingDoll, but with an open license.

A 3D design of it, on which we can work.

In this way we could not only correct her anatomy, we could also pave the way to create new poses and locations for Mónika, collectively, exponentially expanding the Monika After Story project.

It would also be good to redraw Monika's face, correctly taking advantage of the potential provided by the transparencies that the interface supports, with the shading and only making the lines for the eyelids and the nose.

So players could easily customize their skin color and even do things like eye shadow, without having to draw all their parts.

sorry! i forgot to reply. i'm on it! it's certainly a challenge to not move that finger, but i'll do my best.

as all the clothings are drawings, though i'm not sure if it'll work; a 3d model of the anatomy would be great for me!

howltrek commented 2 years ago

it is used only to draw on, but when doing it with a model, not only the pose is correct.

You can change the pose of the model, to always draw with a congruent anatomy.

I'll ask to not do any more changes without discussing them beforehand. There's no plans to redraw her face, add new poses, or support different skin colour. We're trying to keep Monika close to herself and not make any unnecessary changes (like changing skin tone). Each new pose would require to redraw every outfit. This most likely won't happen until later.

This is more work than you can imagine, and even if we had manpower, there's still community spritepacks, which we don't want to break unless it's really required.

i have updated the sprite in the google drive. check if available :) image

@kkrosie123 @ThePotatoGuy , i have finished all of the sprites including the hair and the anatomy. please check them if you have time!

also, i have also noticed that there are a lot of unnecessary layers within 1 folder. may i ask that which ones impact the game individually, and which does not?

ThePotatoGuy commented 2 years ago

@kkrosie123 is still reviewing this and noting the changes that would need to be made/making necessary changes. Currently the consensus within the dev team is that the latest iteration of this base is too different from the current base and would also break compatibility with rings (and possibly other spritepacks).

In the PSD, the layers that are marked to show are used in the game. Layers that are not enabled are old/alt versions that are there for reference. Basically don't mess with the visibility of layers inside the main folders. Main folders are the folders that correspond to PNGs used in the mod_assets/monika folders.
