Thanks for the report.

However, I am unclear by what you mean by 'extra space in data / directory'

In the image, the logging output states that there is a new items.txt file within the ./data/ directory. This is correct, as the relative path of the new items.txt file is now ./data/items.txt. This type of notation is used in the course website as well, as can be seen below.
