Artwork where we would require an authors permission #187

After a small discussion in discord we came up with the idea of looking for open-source art or finding art that would work and request the authors permission. Post any such art in this github tracker along with a small note if the artists gave us permission. It would be nice if someone acts as public "face" of the group for that. Please remember Stellaris uses a very wide screenformat.

Credits For each pictures that you will use, please add this line in the credit : Picture [Picture's name if possible / Event's name otherwise] made by [Author's name] - [Deviant Art link]

What you could do is test if a piece of the picture can be used. It just needs to have the correct height - lengh ratio like 450 x 150. Just to prevent us from asking people for permission when in the end their picture cannot be used in the first place.

Local testing would be fine for that.

I would highly advise us to not upload anything unless we have permission from the artist. As someone who does the occasional peice of artwork (not at any professional or semi-professional level) I'm really against uploading things we don't have permission for into any branch. We don't need pissed off artists, or people railing against us for accidentally uploading their work without permission or their explicit refusal. One mod owner already got ranted at for using a peice of art without permission, and it was about 4 pages of comments long, even after the mod owner took it down after the first comment.

I absolutely agree: local testing only until we have permission. If we upload anything, it's too easy for it to accidentally end up in the final product without proper permissions being obtained.

This is a good idea and if anyone is available to ask permission for these linked artworks, that would be awesome.

First round of answer. http://digital-fantasy.deviantart.com/ has given full permission to use his work, including resizing and cropping if needed to fit the Stellaris requirement. If you use one of his drawings in your event, please don't forget to credit it using the template in the first post.

http://skaya3000.deviantart.com/ has given permission for some of her work because part of it is already licensed. So if you want to use of of her pictures, tell me which one so I can ask if it's possible or not. More information about that later as I'm still discussing with her. :)

I recently found this artist : http://maxdevyataev.deviantart.com/gallery/ there is some great Sci-Fi themed artwork, worth to ask for some.
