See comment below for the anomaly that starts the whole mess.

Defector Haven Spawn on: Pulsars

Yssahran-looking station is orbiting the pulsar, using its radiation to mask its presence. The damage from internal sabotage is quite visible.

Our team had not find any trace of our ancestors. However, it is still a major window into the history of Yssahr Great collective

Data extracted from the computers of the station did provide some interesting discoveries. It appears that previously utilized as shipping hub, it was repurposed by the Yssahr to house a reptilian species called Ksa. Insectoid Yssahran engineers were present the station to assist its smooth operation, however the day-to-day operations were run by the Ksa.

Yssahr Great Collective ran an operation to provide Ksa who wished to flee their oppressive home nation, called Ksa Republic, and find new home in Yssahr territory. Due to fear of repercussion from the Republic, mood aboard the station was tense and paranoid with security service have a hard time with saboteurs and agitators who claimed that fate that awaits Ksa who reach Yssahr planets is actually much worse then anything Republican government could do to dissidents. The last recordings show that security chief worried about possible Republican spies sneaking explosives aboard, and judging by extensive damage to station's vital systems, he was right. Data that station distributed to help Yssahran operators to avoid detection could prove useful to narrowing down location of both nations.

Armistice Station Spawn on: Gas giants

An ancient derelict space station is orbiting this gas giant. The structure shows a strange blend of two distinct aesthetics and judging by the shape of the holes in the hull might be sabotaged from the inside

After boarding the derelict station, science team had came across multiple dead bodies and traces of extensive fighting. The surviving station's databanks indicate that the station was established some 4 millions years ago after a disastrous first contact between Ksa Republic and Yssahr Great Collective. Unfamiliar with an idea of sentient alien life, reptilian Ksa attempted to colonize a planet that was already occupied by undergroud-dwelling insect-like Yssahr and mistook them for local vermin that need to be contained. After the arrival of Yssahran fleet, Ksa had realized their mistake and following a series of battles they managed to established the contact and sue for peace. In hope to maintain peaceful relations in the future, two nations had built a space station to serve as a place for species work out their differences. The peace lasted for several hundred years, until inexplicably Yssahr delegates and security detail had attacked and massacred the Ksa on the station before detonating explosives, marking the beginning of a new war.

Traces of combat Spawn on: Gas giants

Massive battle was raging in this planet's orbit millennia ago, littering its upper atmosphere with debris

Our science team had observed vast quantities of debris. During second Yssahran-Ksa war, an important battle happened there. Ksa Republic relied on a small number of enormous, heavily armoured ships to dominate the battlefield, which were inadequate to defend from Yssahran navy, that employed swarms of stealthy corvettes to suddenly strike the Ksa fleet when it was the most vulnerable. Even though Yssahr fleet suffered great losses in the battle, they lost cheap, easily replaceable ships, while the Republican Navy was devastated.

Analysis of surviving battle computers from both fleets offered some insight in both nations' philosophy and internal logistics.

Cleansed World Spawn on: Barren worlds

Ruined buildings are still recognizable on the planet's surface, mangled and burnt but undeniably Ksa in origin. They are worth taking a look

The science team sent to investigate the ruins had finally located the planetary administration which miraculously survived mostly intact. Communication logs they found in administratory computers provided insight into final days of the colony.

It had came under close attention of Republican Security Committee for suspicion of its administration planning to betray the Republic to the Yssahr Great Collective. Planetary governor vehumently denied the allegation, but the planet was blockaded by the Republican Fleet. Accused of failure to contain the pro-Yssahran activity, the planetary leadership was eventually executed and planet cleansed by orbital bombardment.

Ksa Laboratory Spawn on: Barren world

We are detecting a concealed facility built on the planet's surface. Analysis suggests it's Ksa in origin

The facility turned out to be a massive research complex built by the Ksa Republic's Academy of Science soon after their disastrous first contact with Yssahr great collective. The science team located multiple cells outfitted to contain captive Yssahr.

It appears Ksa authorities established the facility in order to prepare to another possible conflict, conducting secret studies on Yssahran prisoners of war they failed to turn over after signing peace treaty and later on civilians captured in pirate raid unofficially sponsored by the Republic. Their goal was to find possibility to design an effective chemical or biological agent that could be used to wipe out Yssahr troops and colonies in case of another war.

The complex continued its operation for a long time, but was unable to produce workable solutions, with researches citing "adaptive genetic malleability" of the Yssahr species as the main obstacle.

Ksa Propaganda Broadcast Spawn on: Asteroids

Large complex is concealed within this asteroid, spouting a lot of transmitting equpment. It was likely built by Ksa

Our science team had made its way into the facility. It appears to be run by Ksa Republic, in order to broadcast anti-Yssahran propaganda from deep inside Yssahran territory. The propagandists broadcast pro-Ksa propaganda urging Ksa citizens on worlds occupied by the Yssahr Great Collective to resist and to not believe claims of benevolence. Accusations of genocide and other crimes were very prominent in the broadcasts.

Multiple Ksa corpses are littering the station, suggesting that Yssahran forces had found and eradicated them. However, their number is unusually small for the station's size, which suggests many more were captured alive or invaders chose to recover some bodies.

Ksa Homeworld This event fires after all the previous artefacts are recovered. Artefacts listed after this are from Yssahr side and do not contribute to this counter, but can be found earlier. The system Ksa Prime is spawned. Named planets include gas giant Imedisar orbited by the barren moon Aredin Ksa. Special project is located on Aredin Ksa.

We had collected enough data to locate the Ksa homeworld and the capital of their republic. We should depart there immediately

Our scientists had thoroughly investigated Aredin Ksa - the birthplace of Ksa civilization. What they found is a ghost planet, devoid of all life. Yet, the infrastructure and building show no sign of warfare and are only crumbling due to old age. Even the planet's inhospitality itself can be explained by natural planetary life cycle.

Some of the data cores remain intact. It appears that after several catastrophic losses Ksa Republic had no choice to surrender to the Yssahran forces, as they closed in on their homeworld. Yssahr Great Collective ran noticably soft occupation, although installing a puppet government, they largerly allowed Ksa to manage their own affairs. Or so it seemed, as large number of Ksa seemed to disappear. Police state was nothing new for their civilization, but anyone who mentioned it soon vanished too. Due to controlled communication within the population and their natural tendency to build insular communities, the planet was depopulated before the majority noticed anything wrong. We can identify direction of such a shipping operation, drawing closer on Ksa homeworld.

Eugenic Bureau Spawn on: Frozen world

We have located a vast data processing facility located within a glacier on the planet's surface. It seems to be Yssahran in design

Data extraction conducted by our scientists had revealed extensive genetic records kept on citizens of the Yssahr Great Collective and a massively complex algorithms to pair them for reproduction. It seems the Yssahr took guiding their evolution very seriously.

The algorithms' specifics had revealed a lot about Yssahr biology. Their genetic code was uniquely malleable and adaptable which was further enhanced by advanced biotechnology they employed. However unforeseen consequences of genetic modifications came to haunt them a few generations after the introduction and had made maintaining a healthy stable population difficult. Extensive eugenic measures were implemented to keep uncontrolled mutations in check.

Processing Camp Spawn on: Uninhabited habitable planet

Scans show Yssahran complex buried in the ground on this planet. We should set up an archaeological dig

Althought Yssahr Great Collective never claimed this planet for itself, they had set up a camp on its surface. The area is dotted by small buildings of individual habitats geared towards needs of the Ksa species, surrounded a larger administrative building. It appears to be used to house Ksa refugees, defectors and later - prisoners of war with maximum comfort.

The larger building housed Yssahran administrators, medical facilities and a terminal for incoming and outcoming ships. The basement contained some equipment that is more difficult to explain. [Science Officer] believes that large chambers could be used to disable cellular cohesion of living species, turning them into vapour of sludge, but for what purpose it could be used [he/she] can't be sure.

Quarantine Spawn on: Regular stars

We have detected a space station of Yssahran design oribiting the star. We should investigate it

As the science team made its way through the stations, they uncovered large quarantine units. They seemed to be set up to be jettisoned at the star below if needed and many are missing, suggesting this was their fate.

As our scientists pried open the units, they saw Yssahran bodies, well-preserved in vacuum of space. Despite our knowledge of their physiology is limited at best, [Science Officer] swears that corpses he sees are horribly disfigured, twisted and covered in malignant tumours. It appears for some reason Yssahr Great Collective used to dump their sick here. Some of the shipping route data in station's logs could be used to learn more about Yssahran locations.

Yssahran homeworld This is the final event, spawning after all the previous are complete. Spawn system Kehorasakhar with 12-tile Gaia planet Yss orbiting it. Final project points to it.

With all the data we have, we could finally pinpoint the location of the Yssahran homeworld. Hopefully we will find answers we seek there

As our scientists approached Yss they were greated by sight of urban decay and abandonment. However, no traces of major warfare or disaster could be found.

Surviving data records had revealed the truth about the fate of the Yssahr. From their dawn as a species Yssahr had benefited from their unique adaptation abilities. Their very genetic code would rewrite itself on the fly, changing them to suit their need. It could even assimilate other species. As intelligence was singled out as the best mechanism, they eventually gained sentience. From this, their civilization flourished and as they reached for the stars, they have turned to genetic engineering to make their natural ability even more powerful.

But the benefit was not without cost. Foreign elements they introduced into their genes had, in a few generations, interfered with basics of their own malleability. Their natural genetic malleability had gone haywire, triggering defence mechanism they until now were not even aware they have to try and repair damage, only causing damage and further mutations.

Yssahr scientists theorized that infusion of genetic material from the alien life forms might allow them to repair damage. They turned to non-sentient aliens. Then they started abducting primitive sentient beings, including our ancestors. It slowed the process down, but it wasn't nearly enough.

In desperation they turned to their neighbours - Ksa. They believed they could use assimilation of the Ksa genetic material to stabilize themselves. At first, they used expatriates that left the Ksa Republic seeking better life on Yssahran worlds, but it wasn't enough. Yssahr launched a military campaign to acquire and process billions of Ksa they believed they need to find a cure.

In the end, they succeeded. As Yssahr society was breaking down, hopeful scientists delivered a cure through airborn retrovirus. It worked, but in itself it had one final surprise. One final mechanism in Yssahr genes to go haywire. Yssahr are still around, but their minds are gone. They have turned into primitive beasts roaming the wilds in their homeworld. But we can be the push that would bring them back to their former selves.

Spawn multiple ancient ruins blockers. Also spawn Yssahr pre-sentient species with extremely adaptible trait, and Gaia adaptation as well as unique trait "Malleable" that gives them +35% to habitability.

Elimdur commented 7 years ago

extremely adaptible trait + "Malleable" that gives them +35% makes for a flatout 55 % anywhere i suppose without any planet but gaia to have 80 % as usual

Sounds interesting. For a xenophile empire that could be extremely useful.

Seems like both empires where assholes...and the ksa propaganda was in fact correct...

ViolentBeetle commented 7 years ago

Stellaris Wiki says Gaia adaptation gives zero for every non-gaia planet, making them 55% flat unless you spend a gene point on giving them a proper adaptation. That's how I think ringworld adaptation works, and that's the assumption I was writing under.

ViolentBeetle commented 7 years ago

Extra thought: Perhaps adaptive trait should be removed leaving the Yssahr with 35% habitability flat across the universe. If player wants more, he'll have to mod more traits into them or at least altering their adaptation, or rely on verious tech and buildings to provide habitability on passable levels, while sinking gene points into better traits.

Per @Elimdur suggestion, entry point for the chain starts with his ancient abductors anomaly.

Upon researching:

The complex appears to be staging ground for some spacefaring civilization, dating somewhere around 100,000 years ago. Terminals for inbound and outbound flights are clearly identifiable even in advanced age. Remains our science team had found inside were not preserved well, but genetic testing confirmed the initial suspicion. Those were our own species!

What little data science team managed to pull from the data banks suggest that the outpost was built by a spacefaring civilization called Yssahr Great Collective, but for what purpose did they move around our prehistoric ancestors is unclear. The only other useful piece of data is a set of coordinates to the distant system. The answers might be there.

Did quite a bit of rewriting of the anomaliy success text to come to this version which is then followed by a project on this planet.

Our science team estimates its age somewhere around a 100,000 years. Apparent terminals for in- and outbound flights are still identifiable. Inside the complex our science team found highly decayed remains of several different species confined inside of thousands of storage containers of some sort. However, these were most likely no stasis pods... But the sheer fact that there are still remains left to be found suggests that these containers were meant to preserve them for whatever purpose.\n\nThere are no signs of battle or any violence at all. Everything looks as if the previous owners just left without taking anything with them. §Y[Root.GetLeaderName]§! proposes a study of this outpost's computersystem.
