macros in title issues an error

Please describe the feature, problem, or bug:

When I use \title{500\,MeV \textsc{hebt}} title, I got the error message
! Argument of \reserved@a has an extra }.
<inserted text> 
                \par 
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Some formatting commands should be allowed inside the title macro.

What version of Tufte-LaTeX are you using?  With which TeX distribution?

Document Class: tufte-handout 2010/03/28 v3.5.1 Tufte-handout class

Please provide any additional information below.

Try one of the following:

  \title{500\,MeV \protect\textsc{hebt}}
  \title{500\,MeV {\scshape hebt}}

Please let me know if you continue to encounter any problems.
