Danshui Multi Colored Design #4

Open Morningstar88 opened 4 years ago

Morningstar88 commented 4 years ago

We need to choose the colors.

There are some hexcode palettes here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_4F49xH-EQE2oEjZSmDsGM2qImC3Nr1y_EZze6YkHH4/edit

I also need to find what fonts they are using, and check what the licenses are.

taiwanluthiers commented 4 years ago

do you think it's better to use colors danshui is known for rather than ripping off of some big corporation?

Morningstar88 commented 4 years ago

Ha... I'm not ripping them off. Im using brand colors as a starting point, and Im going to alter every shade so they are our own.

I bet if I hadn't named them you wouldn't have noticed. But I see your point. Pallette design is harder than it looks, and there's a real science to it.

What colors is Danshui known for? Name 4 hexcodes and we'll see if the pallette works.

Remarkably 90% of an assessment for trying out a product is made by color alone.

https://www.carpetone.com/beautiful-design-made-simple/2015/12/01/the-science-of-color-creating-the-perfect-color-palette

Color is arguably the most powerful element in a design scheme. I’ve studied color and the psychological affects in much detail. The advertising industry, out of necessity has championed the topic and perusing any number of articles on the subject helps add a bit of science behind the selection process. Remarkably 90% of an assessment for trying out a product is made by color alone. Imagine how that notion is translated into interior design.

taiwanluthiers commented 4 years ago

I'm thinking sky blue, grey, and grass green, and maybe color of sand... But you know you walk in danshui and look at the color all the boats are painted, and that's probably a good guide to start.

Morningstar88 commented 4 years ago

Those are some good ideas. I will get a couple of test palettes together.

Can you do a silver or gunmetal ink? Are there any special issues with a dark silver ink? Toxicity, washing or fixing (heat) problems?

We also need to investigate how to keep yellow TShirts white? Include a guide for the customer or something?

*

Once we have the plates set up, and we do a run of 100 with one pallette....is it easy for you to wash the ink out and then do a second run with a new pallette? If we can do that, we can come out with infinite combinations of designs from one set of plates.

BTW, If you go to a palette picker you can turn those color names into hex codes yourself. I have spent 20 hours debugging and deploying the website template these past 10 days and I'm a little burned out.

sky blue, grey, and grass green, and maybe color of sand.. If you get a basic hexcode pallette together and send it to me we can adjust it.

The green blue and ming are good.

I would choose an alternative for Bone. Maybe Burgundy?

I found a random picture of danshui riverside and took it from that. Feel free to modify it as you see fit

Morningstar88 commented 4 years ago

Can we edit and swap palettes using that site? It would help a lot.

Here's a design I did last night. It's a little tacky. The colors need to be darker. Ignore the black outline.

I'd rate this as 40% right now. Lets keep talking about it until it gets really beautiful

https://imgur.com/gallery/oboB1Ko

We need to

1) Get a better pallette. 2) Choose where the colors go.

Do the colors in the second design follow the calligraphy pen strokes?

taiwanluthiers commented 4 years ago

I would say try to keep each radical the same color. That way the design isn't hard on the eyes...

taiwanluthiers commented 4 years ago

I'm thinking kinda like this, keeping all radicals a single color. But do you have any suggestion for the color shades? Maybe lighter shade is appropriate.

Morningstar88 commented 4 years ago

I think we should go with darker colours.

Navy, Forest Green, Burgundy and Royal Blue. Might be a good idea to keep radicals consistent. We can keep choosing palettes this week.

Morningstar88 commented 4 years ago

One option is monochrome palettes.

Navy/Teal

The radicals could be different shades.... so subtler

The colors look lush in their own right. Can you do half tones?

Sometimes I feel like just printing a block of colors on a tshirt.

taiwanluthiers commented 4 years ago

What if you just did a color gradient like you said earlier?

Morningstar88 commented 4 years ago

I was thinking today a burgundy 4 color gradient might be a good start.

PS I also think we should do some Taoist designs for the Patreon showcase. I want 5 designs to showcase. I have them ready. I don't want to cater to judgemental and small minded old fashioned Christians. Most of our customers will be chilled and relaxed.

If you think it's a good idea, I have some Taoist ideas.

Good red palette

9b0000 6d0000 5b0000 430000

This is a stock palette. I will adjust it. Note that all colors contain only red, and zero green and blue.

Morningstar88 commented 4 years ago

Warmer Red Pallete. "Red Wine Lip" Better.

I will adjust it. Let me know what you think.
