Try Nusa Dua as a base - nice beaches, great infrastructure, a lot cleaner and not full of trash … you’re super well connected as they built loads of new roads during the G20 - so can pop off and visit loads of other places as needed without the headaches / noise / construction / trash of being in Canggu, Ubud, Uluwatu etc. Sanur and the ports are just over the toll road too if you want to hit Nusa Penida, Lembogan of thr Gilis, a super easy ride to the airport too. Can be a bit boring - but it’s a lot more pleasant to stay there than the other places are now after Covid

Canggu is overcrowded. I'd suggest going further up to Seseh or Kedungu, if you want quiet. Pererenan is also a good area, lots of new restaurants, boutique, and gelatos! I'm also 30 something.

Anonymous participant it’s more resorty with lots of big 5* hotels (you can use most of the facilities … pools, beaches, etc if you buy a drink / coconut… so they’re quite handy and surprisingly not so expensive)… that said it’s becoming increasingly ‘normal’ with lots more younger people and restaurants / bars, normal villas for rent etc. It’s not as lively as living in the middle of say Canggu or Uluwatu - but to be honest those places are becoming a nightmare. They’re massively busy, traffic jams, dirty, noisy construction next to almost anywhere you’ll stay, and just a lot of anti-social loutish behaviour. Nice to pop into for a few days or a crazy night out - but no way I’d want to live there anymore. Nusa Dua, Sanur and the quieter places are just a lot more civilised and chill. Plus as above, the road network is a lot more developed with proper motorways in and out and rarely any bad traffic - so you can be a lot more mobile. You tend to get places faster even if on the map they look further.

What is the vibe in Canggu these days? I havent been since 2018 and a bit worried if I should even go back or just keep it in memory as I have. Worried it might be "crazy" as I hear pollution, traffic, influencers, lots of plastic surgery etc.... I visited 2010 to 2018 and it started to get crazier late 2018. I wonder ppl who have been there the same times as me do you think it is much different to 2018? I mean everywhere changes but some tourist destinations have just gone a bit mad for my taste in the last 5 years (koh phanghan, tulum etc)
