Rebooting Turns Off Programs

Hey @MortJC, I have been going mad for the last month or two trying to figure out why my scheduled programs turn off randomly. I of course blamed the app and the firmware; I did everything under the sun to resolve it, including having one of their tech guys watch my system remotely for the next few days.

I came across this Reddit post before bed and found another user found that every time Homebridge is rebooted; their program turns off. So I checked my program was still active, I gave it a go and rebooted my child bridge for this plug-in and checked the app again; and my program was turned off! Finally caught it in action. Not sure if you have experienced this at all, but something has changed in the last two months (internal software or firmware update?).

Hi. I haven't experienced this and restart my homebridge frequently.

Can you turn on debug, retest this and send me the log?

Which Bhyve device do you have?

Sorry I would have attached one if I didn't discover this in bed at the time. I have tried my best to 'scrub' the debug logs of spam from other plug-ins, whilst leaving in all the startup info and anything releated to the BHyve.

Please let me know if any of those BHyve details are sensitive and if I need to edit them for privacy. I have confirmed this happens without fail; 5 times in a row I tested it this morning and a reboot of Homebridge or the child bridge I have set up will turn off all programs (the stolen controller program one is the one Orbit's tech guy has set up to monitor).

I have the B-Hyve 6 station (WT25G2-0001) on latest firmware 0084.

After connecting only message sent by homebridge plugin to Orbit API is: TX {"event":"sync","device_id":"5dac38b24f0c47ece9f25cd4"}, which is just a sync, asking the system to return it's status.

It does look like the "stolen controller test" is changing the programming though.

Please let me know if any of those BHyve details are sensitive and if I need to edit them for privacy. I have confirmed this happens without fail; 5 times in a row I tested it this morning and a reboot of Homebridge or the child bridge I have set up will turn off all programs (the stolen controller program one is the one Orbit's tech guy has set up to monitor).

I have the B-Hyve 6 station (WT25G2-0001) on latest firmware 0084.

Hmm... Could it be something to do with how Homebridge caches and not necessarily to do with this plug-in? Because the reboot of Homebridge or the child bridge I have for this plug-in is 100% turning off my programs. 'Stolen controller test' was only added yesterday and this has been going on for roughly two months without me making the connection to the cause. Is there anything else we can check?

You mean after the reboot, turn the program back on to see if it captures it being turned back on? I’ll leave the stolen controller program out of the mix.

@MortJC I did what I think you meant. I deleted the 'stolen controller' program, turned my main one back on, set debug and rebooted. The program turned back off as expected, I waited a little bit and turned it back on while watching the logs; I saw a response at 5:37:11pm that might be what you are after.

Hi,

Looks like the system is disabling itself for no reason. The plugin is not doing that. The plugin is just sending a sync to get the configure and status.

Mine also does this, but I get a subsequent immediate update that it's enabled again.

Is the device using the smart schedule or have you programmed it?

Hmm damn. If it is not the plug-in, could it be Homebridge itself? I fear that if I raise an issue with them they are going to turn me straight back to you and we are back at square one haha…

I can confirm it is happening without a doubt every time and I do not know why it started happening over the last few months. At least there was the case of another user with the same issue on Reddit.

Is the device using the smart schedule or have you programmed it?

I do not use any of the smart watering as I felt like it didn’t do the best and stick only with the basic scheduled timer programs.

Hi,

The only communication with the Orbit API is through the plugin. I'm guessing the API has changed somehow and the sync is now triggernig the issue.

Can you test using the smart schedule and see if the issue still exists?

I'm guessing the API has changed somehow and the sync is now triggernig the issue.

Is there any easy way for us to find out the API changes?

Can you test using the smart schedule and see if the issue still exists?

Hi. The API changes would be on the vendor side. Nothing we can control.

Hey James, it does the same thing with smart watering scheduled as well; reboot of Homebridge or the child bridge turns off the smart watering program.

Sorry, I'm at a loss as to how to move forward. My Wt24I-0001 4 zone device does not do this.

That is no stress, I feel like this may not be a common one or you would have more people reporting it. If you are ok with leaving the issue open then maybe future people might also report it.

The user who reported it on Reddit never replied to me any further when I said I had the same problem and created the issue here. They never specified what model they had sadly. They did post it on the Homebridge subreddit, so they would use this plug-in also.

At least now that I have pinpointed the issue this far I can be aware to turn the program back on after every time I reboot Homebridge.

Heard back from the other user, they have the WT26-001 on firmware 0039. They said they resolved their issue by switching over to smart watering; which has not worked for me.

All good and appreciate your help so far; just wish I knew more to try and help you out. I know that Home Assistant forums are always a good place to go to get further info on API for various devices and asked a question there about it. The dev of that integration said that they are not aware of any recent API changes at all.

Thinking I might go nuclear and try to factory reset my B-Hyve this work break and see if that helps; I was hoping to avoid that though. I will let you know if that helps!

@MortJC I was so close to calling this a success, I just tried 5 reboots and 4 of them were perfect with no issue and then the 5th one turned off my program... So, still an issue by the looks...

Pfff, I was going nuts as well LOL. My schedule programs keep turning off and this is why. At least now I know. I don't restart hombridge a lot. I looked and I don't think is possible but I will ask to be sure. Is it possible to create automation in homekit using this plugin? I would prefer to use that vs the app programs.

@jdmtv001 sorry for the late reply, I must have forgot to get back to this. Unfortunately it appears HomeKit will still not let us use irrigation/sprinkler zones for automations (at least from the main app). Who knows, maybe Apple might actually care to put some love into HomeKit this year..? Haha...
