Additional tool thoughts? #903

with Winapp2ool and other utilities - has there been a discussion or can there be one for one that would scan a users system and output a list of programs (those in All Programs list and others), which are NOT covered by winapp2.ini or those native to CCleaner INIs?

I think your idea is interesting, but I think, if someone managed to write such a tool, than it would be much better to write cleaning software itself.

Ccleaner doesn't support infile cleaning since years and it will probably never happen. Also newer versions of ccleaner are using bigger space of your desktop.

I'd say we abadon ccleaner partially and concentrate on our own tool for cleaning.

Another tool that cleans also INI and XML files is ClearProg. It's not developed anymore, but the community could convince the author to improve his program. The advantage is that we can submit new entries to be included in the "ClearProgPlugIns.ini" file, just like winapp2.ini.

at a superficial level this seems easy but entries aren't 1:1 with application names necessarily

I'd say we abadon ccleaner partially and concentrate on our own tool for cleaning.

winapp2ool could easily be modified to support executing winapp2.ini entries, but something with a ui would probably be more user friendly an sensible. much of the backend of winapp2ool is developed with this eventuality in mind though. just haven't had the time.

notice that winapp2ool does possess the ability to manipulate the contents of ini files ;)

Yeah, i think it should be something similar like Ccleaner, but it should be static and debloated. ClearProg seems like it's build with C++, but source code is not available and the author is missing since 2009.

About BleachBit: It's has really an ugly UI and I would not use it. And it cannot be used with recyle bin start cleaning.

If we are gonna do this, we should be making it with C++ and QT perhaps.

I think if we use Winapp2ool for cleaning the entries, then we could later add the GUI. We need to start somewhere if you ask me. If our winapp2.ini cleaning works, then we need to start do our own winapp1.ini, because we should avoid this, because of this: https://www.ghacks.net/2013/02/05/piriform-asks-bleachbit-developer-to-remove-winapp2-ini-import-option/

I really would not deviate from CCLeaner, but the software has gotten so worse, I still use 5.42, because it's that ugly UI, where 90% of your desktop is used and it's always connected to the internet, even if you don't want it. You literllay need to block from Hosts file so it does not connect. And nothing ever got better with the cleaning.

@MoscaDotTo We can close this I think. I think we already have a lot on our mind with this, so if someone is able to do a custom software, he sure will do and then come to us, if he wishes.
