This happens after upgrading to bookworm. I read multiple forum discussions over the last few days but couldn't find something working. I'm not the only one struggling.
I installed motion via apt-get install motion.
I configured the mmal camera "as usual" with mmalcam_name vc.ril.camera. in motion.conf.
libcamerify wasn't installed, so I installed libcamera-4v2l as recommended in the Raspberry forum.
libcamera-hello works. I can take pictures and videos.
