[ Session Name ] Learning Master - you are a co-creator of open education [ Primary Space ] Openness [ Secondary Space ] Decentralisation

[ Submitter's Name ] Maren Fabia Frank [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] Freelance

What will happen in your session?

Participants drop in and build teams to co-create micro learning sessions. From figuring out what they are masters in and therefore can teach to others, over deciding on a learning mission and creating a story board for the learning experience, to recording a micro learning session (max 5 Minutes) as film or audio, participants will get a hands on, all in experience of creating open learning resources. The big assets of this experience are playing, fun and laughter. In the end there will be loads of high fives for learning, growing and contributing their unique strengths and views to the online learning community.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

Participants have hands-on experience of how to create online learning content. They have gone through all the steps, from ideation, over prototyping, to implementation. They have experienced themselves as co-creators of the expanding field of open education. They have a working sample to take with them and share. Their work will be shared with all of the festival participants (and the online community as a whole if they choose so). I hope to learn more about the fears and hurdles that keep people from creating their own open education resources. And I want to invite everyone to experience the fun of co-creating open education content.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

Time needed

All weekend, as an installation, exhibit or drop-in session

Maren, thanks for submitting! Totally optional, the decentralisation space has a set theme for this year, https://github.com/KadeMorton/Xenshana if you want you can see if you want to work the theme into your presentation.

This looks like it could be fun! Any thoughts about a suitable online sharing platform?

marenff commented 6 years ago

Thank you @KadeMorton for this idea. I am talking to someone who might join me to bring Xenshana into this project. Will keep you updated.

marenff commented 6 years ago

Thank you @yochannah. I am not sure about the platform yet. There are so many possibilities out there. Have started with some research and am grateful for any recommendation from this community!

@marenff look forward to seeing how this develops!

@marenff I have another question! :)

I'm one of the Openness wranglers team. We're still in the process of reviewing sessions, and we were wondering - if your session is eventually accepted, would you be willing/able to deliver in a shorter slot (e.g. 60 or 90 minute) rather than all weekend?

Background reason for asking: Lots of sessions have asked for all weekend slots, but our physical space is finite. If some sessions are able to run shorter we may be able to fit more in! 🦄

Hej @yochannah, I think it is possible to deliver it in 90 minutes. It depends on space and people. Could you give me an idea how big the space is and how many people on average could be expected. Than I can think about a timeline and update the proposal.

@KadeMorton I've been having a few (or probably more ;) ) conversations with people about the Xenshana theme. In the end we came up with the idea to make it an open space around the question "What does the experience of learning look like in Xenshana and what can we learn from it for our world". We decided in favor of learning and against education as to make it more open and give people the chance to think beyond known learning settings aka education. As @yochannah asked if the session could be delivered in 60 or 90 minutes, I would suggest to make this another session of 60 minutes. I'd love to create a huge canvas where people can draw and paint their vision of learning, where they can post stories and words. The setup would be the following: Introduction and group forming 5 questions with each five minutes to create ideas 20 minutes to create art 10 minutes mingle, chat and learn from each other; enjoy the co-created art Thoughts and ideas?

That sounds amazing. Looking forward to hopefully seeing this session!
