What will happen in your session?

In this session, I'll be helping participants how knowledge of deep learning can be used in real life. Deep learning is a subset of machine learning. Sometimes, people learn the basics of deep learning and required mathematics but are not aware of how to implement the knowledge in an open source project which can be beneficial for the society. Participants will be divided into a group of two. Their aim will be to study a research paper and write it into ML code. There will be two type of hands-on session: first in pure python 3.x and second in Keras framework.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

The goal of the session will be to help a people with getting started into machine learning and how research paper can be written in form of code from scratch and how it can be trained on the same dataset provided in the paper. It will also help people to get started with Keras framework, which is a powerful open source machine learning library. The dataset and research paper will be provided by me during session starting off with one of the easiest neural networks among other variants..They will also learn how data can be split into a good ratio and testing the accuracy of the model by improving hyperparameters.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

I would be requiring a projector for presentation and demonstration purpose. Participants need to bring their own laptop for hands-on session.

@harshit98 as a programmer I think this sounds quite interesting! I actually probably suffer from the opposite problem - I'd feel confident about the programming side of things but am often left stumped about the theory ;)

One thought: it can be hard to predict who will turn up at mozfest sessions. What would you do in this session if a lot of non-technical people (i.e. non-programmers) turned up, or if people came along without laptops?

Hi @yochannah. Yes, I can understand the situation but I'll be prepared for it since I've faced this issue earlier as well. If a lot of non-technical people will turn up, I'm planning to:

• Divide the participants among a group of 2 or 3.
• Distribute them Python and Keras cheatsheet which might be helpful for them to easily understand and solve problem statement.

If people came along without laptops then:

• If I get projector permission, then most probably in this situation I'll be doing a live programming session with each line explanation how it's working. :)
