[ Session Name ] The modern art of Web Designing [ Primary Space ] Web Literacy [ Secondary Space ] Youth Zone

[ Submitter's Name ] Piyush Agrawal [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] BVP Mozilla Open Source Club [ Submitter's GitHub ] @poush

[ Language ] Hindi

[ Localisation Support Requested ] No, I can host the session myself

What will happen in your session?

Today the technologies have grown to such an extent that we are not limited to the traditional methods to create a web page i.e., by coding it. We are heading towards the tech where we can create complete websites with the use of Artifical Intelligence. We can now talk with the smart assistants and instruct them to build the webpage or can draw UI by hand which will be scanned by A.I. to get complete coded UI. There have been great researches going on under this domain. I would like to present the methods which we used in the past, using in the present, and the A.I. methods we will be using for web designing in the future.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

The audience will get to experience, how we started and where we are in terms of building pages. How this A.I. tech will make it very easy to create a website just by telling it what to do either by speaking or giving it a design.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

Projector and cables. If possible, GPU access but I am positive that I will able to get some free credits on AWS for the event.

Time needed

60 mins

@poush I can confirm we don't have GPUs available on site, we have limited computer accessibility as well, but we do have projector setups. You would need to elaborate on cables required, as they would need to be sourced before the event, in the common situation where they aren't available on-site.

I like this session, AI is quite fascinating. Is it your plan to talk about these technologies and the work being put into them, or do you plan on doing some demos? TLDR; How will users engage with your session, will they build / brainstorm / collaborate on something?

poush commented 6 years ago

@ryanwarsaw No problem for GPUs, I will have my home machine fired up and connected remotely for this purpose. For cables, the only requirement would be an HDMI cable for the projector. If the projector has VGA only then a converter for thunderbolt to HDMI.

Around, half of the session will consist of talking about the use of AI in this domain. I understand that this depends upon the audience as well. So, I will try to make sure that, if required, the basics of the topic is introduced well so that they can understand how this tech is working. Yes, I am also planning for demos. There are many experiments for mock UI into a working coded UI. I will be curating them as I learned from them in the past and present a few for demos. Also, for the assistant based solution, there are around 2 open source prototypes which are based on Alexa. So, in the end, people will be able to experience how easily they will be able to create websites. The end results from these demos may not be desired one but the experience will be.

Users will get insights on using AI for web dev, they can directly engage in brainstorming for assistants based ideas which don't require any research knowledge. Firstly, they will see how far we have reached and researched in terms of using AI for websites, through demos, and the latest research news on it. Then, I am excited to brainstorm with them, how they feel it should be and what are the different ideas for improving it.

@ryanwarsaw Just wanted to add that, I am working on a similar extension of AirBnB's research to convert sketches drawn by hand to coded UI components as my college project I will be able to present a minimalist working/demo model at MozFest. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks

@ryanwarsaw I respect the decision of Web Literacy Wranglers to not to select my session. Just one query, will I be able to ask for some feedback, after the selection process, on my submission? It will be very helpful to me. Thanks.

ryanwarsaw commented 6 years ago

@poush If you want the notes from curation, sure. Just because our space didn't accept the proposal, that doesn't imply that there was an issue with your proposal. I removed the milestone so that this could be considered by other spaces, so it is not a formal rejection in any manner.

@jontutcher Can you please check this once for Digital Inclusion. I think the secondary space should be Digital Inclusion at first, instead of the Youth Zone. Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to submit a session to MozFest.

Due to the high level of submissions, we’re unable to accept all proposals and unfortunately, your session was not part of the final group.

You'll receive a follow up email from us in the next few days.
