Curious about documentation participants might take away and target age-group for the train-the-trainer aspects of this session (i.e. starting a BesutKode projects). Also curious about the balance of time spent watching/listening vs. doing.

Hi @chadsansing!

Can you elaborate more on what you mean by "documentations participants might take away?"

The slides that we use for the presentation will be publicized and participants will be able to use the slides to pitch their local chapter initiatives to potential sponsors for their chapter. It contains most of our strategies like mentor time management, social media marketing, school outreach, and many more.

We try to keep the presentation part as short and as effective as possible so that we can have more time for interactive sessions. We estimate that it will take 20 minutes at max. After that, we plan to have several interactive activities, such as:

The time listed in the time needed section is simply our minimum, given more time we would be able to cover more things in the presentation and do more activities and workshop.

In regards to the target age-group, there really isn't any minimum or maximum age. In fact, most of our mentor is still in high school. Youths (age 15-25) are generally a better mentor candidate since the students can treat them as "peers". But from our experience, it's always good to have at least one more mature coordinator or mentor that will be able to handle the more complicated administration work.

Thank you, @smsunarto! I apologize for any confusion.

By "documentation," I mean links or handouts or kits participants can take with them to help start programs. Is there a how-to guide online or off that interested participants might get from the session that will help them start a program after they leave MozFest? The slides sound like they would be helpful, but I also wonder about curriculum, facilitation strategies, mentoring guidelines, etc.

Thanks for the clarification @chadsansing,

All of our resources will be published through Medium or Github repository after we have finished the Bahasa-to-English translation and proofreading. Our resources are initially written for internal use, therefore it needs some additional work and compilation before we can eventually publish it. We plan to have contents out starting early August and it will be ready by MozFest (debut! hurray :D)

You can check the Bahasa version of our 2017 tasks here https://github.com/BesutKode/sma2017-tugas (2018 coming soon)

In regards to the offline handout, we are currently designing a 1-page "Self-assessment handout" that our participants will be able to fill in during the session. The handout contains questions such as "What do you know about open-source?", "What assets (network, skill, character) that you possess?", "How do you plan to use your assets to boost your chapter's growth?", "How is IT education or tech literacy in your country?", etc.

Our presentation will help them interpret their handout answers, for example:

The handout would also be handy if some of the participants would like to discuss their plans with me after the session or during the one-on-one consulting period. It will assist me in seeing all the cards they have on their hand :D

Thank you for taking the time to submit a session to MozFest.

Due to the high level of submissions, we’re unable to accept all proposals and unfortunately, your session was not part of the final group.

You'll receive a follow up email from us in the next few days.
