What will happen in your session?

This session will explore open source Internet measurement tools being developed in a US based study of public libraries, funded by the US' Institute for Museum and Library Services (https://www.imls.gov/grants/awarded/lg-71-18-0110-18). Immediately preceding Mozfest, we will have just completed a participatory design workshop with representatives from 15 public libraries in the US, from rural and tribal libraries, to suburban and urban ones. We invite attendees from libraries, schools, or other public institutions interested in how to understand, measure, and communicate about broadband issues within these public settings to add to our discussion and knowledge as this project begins in the US.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

The goal of this session is to add the perspectives of Mozfest attendees interested in broadband access and quality within public institutions such as libraries. Facilitators will present outcomes of a participatory design workshop with US library staff, and ask attendees to discuss their perspectives and understandings of broadband data and how to best represent and communicate about it.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

A display would be nice to show documents or websites.
