What will happen in your session?

Discussion where we mark out key issues facing LGBTQ+ people across the globe today and how tech (especially crowd sourcing tools) can help LGBTQ+ people gain access to services, discuss issues, share and advocate for their rights focussing on the difference when the LGBTQ+ community creates and defines the resource?

A brief look at how Ushahidi’s platform could support. Exploring other and crowd-sourcing tools and projects (queering the map, trans doctors map, gender neutral bathrooms map, safe cities to be open, LGBTQ+ history, LGBTQ+ safety in countries where it is illegal or they are at risk)

Using a participatory design led approach to speculate needs, features, specifications when building tech that supports the explicit inclusion of LGBTQ+ people.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

A series of projects either using Ushahidi’s platform or other open source or created tools using the knowledge of the participants to extend the platforms capabilities to better serve the global LGBTQIA+ community.

Prototyping and exploring the unique features and needs of the LGBTQIA+ community to better rights globally.
