What will happen in your session?

The talk addresses why private data shouldn't be turned into public good, which is a privacy nightmare. It's important that we must learn to make a core distinction between data about people and data about the world around us as simple as 'data about people ≠ data about rocks'. Data about individuals must belong to the individuals themselves. Data about the commons must belong to the commons.

It focuses on the core injustice in surveillance capitalism that does severe violation of privacy, how we are farmed with no scope of consent, violation of person hood and explores the ways on we can create a digital world that encourage individual sovereignty and a healthy commons.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

To draw attention to dangerous campaigns which contributes to increased surveillance and tips to counter them.

Address the dangers of campaigns asking to make personal data to open for private innovations in projects like Aadhaar.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
