What will happen in your session?

Leaders of creative communities don’t often have the opportunity to come together to discuss strategies for using design, moderation, and facilitation to foster creativity and inclusivity among users of various identities and experiences.

Drawing from our experience with Scratch, the largest online creative community for youth, we’ll discuss how we use community guidelines, project-based initiatives, and our own participation to nurture our community.

After this framing, we’ll break into small groups to discuss strategies participants can and have employed in their own communities to address challenges brought up during the ice-breaker activities. Then, we’ll come together as a large group to report back on these discussions.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

Our goal is for participants to share and discuss challenges and strategies for using design, moderation, and facilitation to foster creativity and inclusivity in their communities.

During break-out sessions, participants will create documentation of strategies to address challenges in creative communities and share with others in the workshop.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

A projector and office supplies would be wonderful!
