What will happen in your session?
Impostor Syndrome is the false feeling that you aren’t qualified for the work you are doing and will be discovered as a fraud at any moment. It is prevalent among people in open tech or culture projects, many of whom have been socialized to value others' opinion of their work above their own, and to do things “by the book”. In this session, you will learn how societal phenomena lead to Impostor Syndrome, and how you can learn to recognize and fight your own Imposter Syndrome and help others to overcome theirs. After outlining Imposter Syndrome and showing some examples, we will engage in 4 hands-on group exercises, designed to help navigate through Imposter Syndrome.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
After the session, participants will understand Imposter Syndrome and how it affects them. They will be leave with statements crafted around their values, to help them navigate through bouts of Imposter Syndrome. Through the group exercises, the participants will recognize how their self-perception often doesn't match with those around them, leading to a stronger sense of self-confidence.
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
