[ Session Name ] Keep open source security training tools alive! [ Primary Space ] Privacy and Security [ Secondary Space ] Digital Inclusion

[ Submitter's Name ] Rory Byrne [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] Security First [ Submitter's GitHub ] rorymbyrne

What will happen in your session?

There are many open source and creative commons tools, guides and curriculums that are available for people to help people learn about and train about information security. For example, Umbrella App, Security in a Box, Level-Up.CC and Surveillance Self Defence – to name just a few.

But these are community projects and rely on volunteers to keep them up to date.

This session will: -Give an overview of what tools, guide and curriculums are available and their current status, strengths/weaknesses, use cases, and needs -Conduct an information security resource share -Share experiences on how information security is taught and how these resources can be used -Conduct user testing to gather feedback on content, design and usability of these resources

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

The goals and outcome of these sessions will be:

-Spread awareness about the wide variety of open source/creative commons resources that are available for people to use for information security training and user education -Collect structured feedback from end users to pass on to respective projects. -Integrate new participants with a wide variety of skills into the community of open source information security education practitioners -Where time allows, we will attempt to fill gaps in existing material, translation and implementation frameworks.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

A projector would be useful, as will basic office supplies, though we will bring as much of this of our own as possible as a backup.

Time needed

60 mins

Awesome! Look forward to it.

@bunnybooboo No problem if not but it would be great if we could do it on the Saturday or Sunday. Purely for selfish reasons as I will be flying back from the US during the night to get there for Friday so would prefer to be a little bit fresher if possible! No worries if it's not!

Thanks -R

@rorymbyrne most of our sessions will land on the Saturday and Sunday. The Friday is really just a fraction of the available space open for a science fair lasting just a few hours. It's more demos of ready made projects with drinks and networking.

We do have facilitator training from 10am on the Friday but if your travel means this is not possible, I highly recommend taking a look at online facilitator support session starting in a couple of weeks. The will be more information sent shortly, but we have not yet completed the curation process. Once that hard deadline closes on September 10 things will kick up a gear.
