[ Session Name ] Social experiments of privacy perceptions in Brazil [ Primary Space ] Privacy and Security

[ Submitter's Name ] Dennys Antonialli [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] InternetLab

[ Other Facilitator 1's Name ] Francisco Brito Cruz

What will happen in your session?

We will exhibit the video InternetLab created with the support of the Mozilla Foundation (creative media fund grant) and present our #Ask Why campaign. The concept of the video was to install hidden cameras in a local drugstore and ask people for abusive private information in the check out (the attendant was a hired actor). Results were really interesting: people would give out their Social Security Number, pictures, and even fingerprints without finding it too weird. The campaign tries to de-naturalize such reactions, making people aware they should be aware of their personal information even in the offline world. (Context: in Brazil these requests are very common).

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

To share the experience with our campaign, present the developments of data protection in Brazil, discuss the specific challenges of the agenda in Brazil, and connect with potential partners and other organizations.

If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.

We will need a projector to screen the video.
