What will happen in your session?
We all increasingly depend on our gadgets and connected devices as a way to experience, produce and consume the Web. A major downside is that all these devices are discarded as e-waste way too quickly, as they're increasingly designed in ways that make them hard to repair and often lack ongoing software support even within warranty period. Campaigns on the "Right to Repair" are growing in North America and Europe, yet we need a step change to connect environmental campaigners with open tech activists and consumer rights organisations.
Participants will share their personal experience and interest with the topic; reflect on key barriers to achieving change; brainstorm ways and actions to make Right to Repair as mainstream as possible
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
The session has three key goals:
Better coordination between all actively working or interested in these topics
Make long-lasting connected devices a priority for our Internet Health
Options for directly engaging the tech community in support of our cause
If your session requires additional materials or electronic equipment, please outline your needs.
If at all possible, I would like to request the session to take place on the Sunday (as unfortunately I can't guarantee I'll be able to be there on the Saturday this year)
