Password parties 🎉 roadmap

Project mission statement I’m working with schools and community centres in London to help them understand the importance of good passwords and strong internet security so that school children and their parents and grandparents can feel more confident about password security and password related breaches become a thing of the past.

Great, how are you planning to do that?

This issue is a rough roadmap and gives a sense of the big milestones that need checking off for this to become a reality. I'll be updating it as the project progresses.

Milestone 1: Run prototype event

• First things first, I need to decide on the things to include in a 30 min seminar-style prototype event eg two factor auth, password managers etc
• Then it's a case of getting some willing friends and family to give me some informal feedback
• I'll create survey for attendees to do complete before and after the event so track how they feel about password security having gone through the process

Milestone 2: Launch main event

• Next, I want to organise a partnership with a school or local group so I can work with them and their community
• Then it's a case of booking a space that fits around 20 people, ideally for free and preferably with computers (if you know anywhere in London suitable, let me know!)
• A sign up page for the event is important to let people know that it exists
• I'll recruit a facilitator and some volunteers to help me run the event
• Researching other community groups and promoting the event in other spaces online (including newsletters) will help its success
• Once attendees are confirmed, I'll arrange food and refreshments

Milestone 33: Run event

• Ahead of the day itself, I'll review the content based on feedback from the first event and other security news since the first event
• I'll vet and contact participants in advance of event to let them know what's going to happen
• A survey will be sent to participants for feedback about what was good and what could be improved

An invitation 🎉

I'm hosting a pilot event this week to test the concept of Password Parties and to get feedback from attendees on learning about online security in a fun and inclusive space.

The format will be around 25-30 minutes of input from me (mainly scare stories about passwords gone wrong) with some time for discussion and then space for practical help. I expect it'll last no longer than an hour overall before we have food and drinks.
