Welcome to OL7, Cohort B! This issue will be used to track your project and progress during the program. Please use this checklist over the next few weeks as you start Open Leadership Training :tada:.

Before Week 1 (Jan 29): Your first mentorship call

• [x] Complete the OLF self-assessment (online, printable). If you're a group, each teammate should complete this assessment individually. This is here to help you set your own personal goals during the program. No need to share your results, but be ready to share your thoughts with your mentor.

Before Week 2 (Feb 5): First Cohort Call (Open by Design)

• [ ] Complete Assignment 'Write Your Vision or Mission Statement'. Leave a comment on this issue with your draft vision statement & be ready to share this on the call.
• [x] Watch 'Mozilla & Working Open'.
• [x] Check the Syllabus for notes and connection info for all the cohort calls.

Before Week 3 (Feb 12): Mentorship call

• [ ] Look up two other projects and comment on their issues with feedback on their vision statement.
• [ ] Complete your Open Canvas (instructions, canvas). Comment on this issue with a link to your canvas.
• [ ] Start your Roadmap. Comment on this issue with your draft Roadmap.

Before Week 4 (Feb 19): Cohort Call (Build for Understanding)

• [ ] Look up two other projects and comment on their issues with feedback on their open canvas.
• [ ] Pick an open license for the work you're doing during the program.
• [ ] Use your canvas to start writing a README, or landing page, for your project. Link to your README in a comment on this issue.

Week 5 and more

• [ ] Create a repository for your project. New to GitHub? You can fork our templates.
• [ ] Add Contributing Guidlines
• [ ] Add a Code of Conduct
• [ ] Submit your project to Mozilla Pulse, add the tag #mozsprint
• [ ] Invite new contributors to into your work!

I’m working with my students to build a platform that would help expose users to ideologically discordant, cross-cutting online content so that Internet users can become more aware of their blind spots and overcome potential selective exposure, filter bubbles and echo chambers.

Here are our comments from the Humane Technology Community Project team:

• Description is too complex, interpreted it wrong at first read.
• Adding also this tweet it became clearer. This platform will explore the graph of i.e. all news about a topic (applying some graph theory) and present them to the user. So I think it’s no ‘editorial line’ in the way news are chosen, with no risk of propaganda, it will be just a random set of items (-> kaleidoscope). It’s all up to the user, to choose, interpret, make an idea out of them.
• Personal reaction of a person in the team: this will not work, though I hope it does, because the conflicts (e.g., the appearance of creating propaganda instead of freedom of information) will be great. Perhaps you could address this in some way in your statement?

Perhaps you could address this in some way in your statement?" This was my comment, and I'd like to explain why I made it. I think the idea of introducing students to concepts and information that will challenge their ingrained ideas is good. I just worry that doing so will invite some kind of social or political censure, perhaps from parents or other teachers. Do you have a plan for addressing this possibility?

Hi @shinadhingra18,

Are you referring to this vision statement "Ubiquitous Humane Technology that Stimulates Humans to Flourish and Humanity to Thrive"? If so, can you suggest ways to simplify it? For example, is it too general, or is the language not simple enough? Would be great to get your feedback.
