MozFest editorial and social / email work #166

Open StevieBenton opened 8 years ago

Hi @KGorr

I'm currently working on my work plan as Mozfest editor and working out how the content I produce can support other comms activity. I'm keen to share any content with you so you can use it on social and email.

It would be really useful to speak with you at some point. I'm in London but can be flexible around timings to suit, including Eastern and Pacific.

I'll have a think about this and make some notes in the thread below. Would be really useful to know the kind of things you would need from me - whether just article copy, or images, Tweet copy, etc.

Thanks!

@StevieBenton - just put something on your calendar for tomorrow morning (Pacific Time) for us to met & chat. If that doesn't work, feel free to suggest another time.

StevieBenton commented 8 years ago

Thanks for the super quick response!

Unfortunately I already have an interview booked in for that time. I am free from 3.30-4.30 BST, or before 2.30pm and after 5.30.

Sorry about that!

@KGorr

Sorry Kristina, tagging you now as not sure if you get a notification otherwise. I'm still a GitHub newbie!

KGorr commented 8 years ago

Ok @StevieBenton - let's see how much time time we can get from the MozFest team call tomorrow to discuss this. If we still need to chat after that we can figure out a time to meet. Thanks!

StevieBenton commented 8 years ago

That's great @KGorr , thank you!

KGorr commented 8 years ago

@StevieBenton - nice to meet on you on the call today. As we chatted about, I think that just pinging me as drafts are getting finalized with a schedule/calendar of posts you have planned, plus attending the weekly comms meetings should be a great working plan for us. If that changes, we can adjust. Welcome to the team!

StevieBenton commented 8 years ago

@KGorr that all makes perfect sense to me. I will certainly keep you updated as I am drafting content. Thank you for the warm welcome and I'm looking forward to working with you :)

Hey @StevieBenton - what's the best way for us to split up tasks for the post comms work? I think the thank you emails and the surveys are the best place to start - should I take emails and you can take the surveys? Of course, happy to collaborate on both together once we unblank the page.

StevieBenton commented 7 years ago

Hey @KGorr - I think that makes sense, but basically happy to direct my efforts to where you think they are most useful.

For the surveys, is there a plan to recreate the same survey as previous years, because then there is an existing benchmark against which to measure the responses? If yes, could you (or anyone!) send me a link or a copy please?

KGorr commented 7 years ago

Great - thanks, @StevieBenton. Here is last year’s survey (that wasn’t sent): https://public.etherpad-mozilla.org/p/mozfestsurvey. I know Erika wants it to be way more robust and thought-through this year. Maybe take a stab at it and then we can review together?

I won't be able to attend the comms meeting next week (hosting a tweet chat that is at the same time), so I'm going to put another meeting on your calendar for us to review a few things if that's OK. Feel free to suggest alternate times if what I send doesn't work.

StevieBenton commented 7 years ago

Thank you @KGorr I will take a look. Is there a specific platform for the survey, such as Survey Monkey? If you like I can draft something there. If not, I can put something in Etherpad or a Google doc.

KGorr commented 7 years ago

great q @StevieBenton. I'm actually not sure but think that drafting the Q in a google doc will be good practice so that the team can edit easily. Then we can port over to whichever platform the team wishes. I can check with Kevin to see if we have a Mozilla survey monkey account.

KGorr commented 7 years ago

Let's use google forms!

StevieBenton commented 7 years ago

Exciting times! Not sure I have used those before!

I'd started putting something together in a Google Doc here. It's simply me working my way through the content from the Etherpad and editing it down.

I'm going to do some more work on it later, but feel free to chip in whenever you like! Either way, I will have a version for us to discuss when we talk on Wednesday.

StevieBenton commented 7 years ago

Hey @KGorr

I have a first draft - yay! But it looks a bit lengthy - boo!

I've tried to keep it simple but it may have become a bit unweildly. Also, I don't have a handle on any specific data that is most useful so tried to use my own judgement. More than happy to take a steer from you on that (or from anyone else as well!)

I made a few amends to the email copy as well. It's all still a live, working draft so do feel free to chip in with comments, edits and questions :)

KGorr commented 7 years ago

Great start @StevieBenton! I added some notes and edits to the doc and also added the draft to our team meeting doc for tomorrow so that other folks can weigh in, especially re: metrics that we want to focus on. Thank you emails will be drafted before our meeting tomorrow! It's been a busy week ;)

KGorr commented 7 years ago

Here is the thank you email draft: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EAPIYlrNmkk0SeIbyjcknwuY-ET6L0RKpZjFELAm5R4/edit#

StevieBenton commented 7 years ago

The emails look great @KGorr :)

I'll take a look at the survey comments now, thank you for being so speedy

StevieBenton commented 7 years ago

OK, I've gone through those comments and suggestions and they all make perfect sense. Looking forward to chatting soon @KGorr
