Design lanyard template #1

Based on discussion from https://github.com/MozillaFoundation/plan/issues/683 we'll design a lanyard template to be used at various MoFo and community-run events.

2015 Mozfest lanyard design vector file is here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzfN9sXlOXt1UG1GeE5GeHp2NGM Original issue: https://github.com/mozilla/2015.mozillafestival.org/issues/210

There was good discussion about lanyard designs in the 2015 mozfest debrief. Here are the overall notes and a couple tidbits about the lanyard:

@edrushka we also discussed potential for something other than a lanyard. E.g., some kind of reusable, less wasteful badge/identifier. Something you still want to explore?

Nice! Thanks for finding these notes. @sabrinang and I did some brainstorming yesterday and she came up with a fabulous idea for 'modular' lanyards (the paper part, not the string). We're also hoping to design a very simple sticker nametag for events that don't need a cardboard lanyard. More details to come this heartbeat.

Lanyard ideas are detailed in this doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16OyJUATrh79M3Gpm8Rpj7yvxmAFgXRiBsGHyctUWHfc/edit

@erikao wanted to make sure you saw this as well! ^ (note that we used SRCCON simply as an example of how the template might be used).

Just a note that we'll also design a simple "hello my name is"-style sticker, for events that don't need (or can't afford) lanyards.

@Melechuga can you jot down your notes about the nametags?

A note – I think one criteria for this should be that documentation on updating the lanyard template is super super minimal, probably not even required at all. I'm concerned about the modularity / multi-page ideas needing further explanation for someone unfamiliar with layout/design or printing techniques. There are some very cool ideas in the doc but not sure they meet the 'simple enough to not require a designer for updating' criteria. Feel free to ignore me if this comment is out of date!

Sure. I mentioned the pins/badges we used to have that said something like "I'm a n00b at " or "I'm a jedi at ____". What I like about these badges is that they're ice-breakers/conversation starters for people who don't know each other, and they're a great way to quickly identify why people are attending the convening. What I think could be better is if they integrated "my name is " and if the language were more inclusive. Not everyone understands terms like "n00b" and "jedi" (including native English speakers). Also, some of our convenings cater to a more professional audience -- not that the badges have to be boring/stiff, but something a little more direct could be useful.

thanks for the ping, @edrushka i second the suggestion about simplicity. for SRCCON, we print name and twitter handle, cause that works for our community. but i think the example in the doc with the logo at the top on the front and it being blank below is fantastic, especially with the addition of stickers. those can be used for volunteer, like it's shown. could also be used for people listing preferred gender pronouns. the blank slate seems to give individual organizers a lot of room to suggest what people write, or what stickers they might want to offer.
