Write text for Android snippet about Beat 5 video #208

Open valianttry opened 8 years ago

valianttry commented 8 years ago

IPC team has OK'd a simple snippet on Android for our final beat, since it's phone-related. It's a relatively small audience, but will be a nice test!

We need to write the copy in partnership with that team.

@chelseanovak can you provide:

OpenMatt commented 8 years ago

@valianttry are you going to write this copy?

Hey @valianttry, The character count for a mobile snippet is 100 (max character limit with spaces). Jessica is putting together some comparators for you and is checking into scheduling.

MJ also has this content already written in case you want to use it (as we thought there might be more content coming in April):

"Without encryption, the Internet becomes less safe and less private. Watch the encryption episodes to see what a world without online privacy looks like."

Update from Jessica:

We don't have any examples for pointing users to a video via Android snippet as it's not something we typically do. We should definitely test this experience on a device to be sure it's mobile-friendly (both the site and the video).

As far as timeline, from an IPC perspective, a 24 hour turnaround should be do-able for approvals. I'm have not worked with the Policy team in the past. I would recommend allowing 3 days total for all approvals to be complete.

Lastly, that suggested copy from MJ was for a desktop snippet so we'll need to come up with something shorter for Android.

Cheers, c

@valianttry @OpenMatt Three things about a snippet next week

1) We have been told by Marketing Operations that snippet service will be on hold (not usable from March Tue 22th March 00:00 UTC and Thu 24th March 23:59 UTC) while infrastructure updates are being made within the system. So if we were planning to have the video go live on Tuesday we either need to have it several hours before the service goes on hold or we'll need to wait until after the service hold is completed.

2) Once we have the link for video 5, we will need a least an hour for QA (making sure that the video plays well on android after someone clicks on the link.

Let me know if you have questions and how you'd like to proceed.

Thanks! C

Update from snippet-land. The service will not be going offline this week as we had originally been told. So whenever you have copy (and the video) ready, please let me know.

Thanks! C

@chelseanovak this last video actually features a phone "dropping", so I suggest we focus primarily on promoting this particular video in the snippet. However, all the previous videos are easy to access on the landing page (microsite). It's all mobile-optimized as well.

I'll drop in a few 100-character options in this ticket once i have wifi on the :airplane:

Hey @valianttry, any update on timing and copy for this? It looks like they have moved the snippet service infra work to next week. Right now it looks like tues-thurs, but Jessica is trying to get them to do wed-fri.

I'm going to be off tomorrow and monday, so if you want to get the snippet landed on either of those days, please reach out to Michaela and Jessica Vondrak.

Cheers, C

benchmark: Without encryption, the Internet becomes less safe and less private. Watch the encryption episodes to see what a world without online privacy looks like.

Variants for consideration (all 100 characters or less):

A. Help Mozilla stand for strong encryption. Watch our latest video and share it with friends. B. Stand with Mozilla to protect strong encryption. Watch our latest video and share it with friends. C. Watch Mozilla's latest video about why strong encryption is important for us all. D. Watch Mozilla's latest video right now -- find out why strong encryption is important for us all.

@chelseanovak @KevZawacki for your feedback and input!

KevZawacki commented 8 years ago

@valianttry My vote is D ("Watch Mozilla's latest video right now..."). Good sense of urgency.

Runner up is B.

Let me know if I can help further!

@valianttry - a question came up during today's standup on this. Did this happen and/or is there anything else that needs to happen while you are on PTO?
