UPDATES

City Expansion

The deadline for the City Interest Form is Monday. US Ignite has not added many notes to our expansion doc, so I will use our regularly scheduled call with them Tuesday as a working meeting to collect their feedback and knowledge on the applicant cities, as well as to share my current thinking on pros and cons for each community.I expect to be able to short list 4-5 cities by mid-week.

RFP 2016.1 Review Meetings

Review meetings have been set for our first application round of 2016. KC will meet on April 12. Chattanooga will follow the next week on April 19th. Nishal from US Ignite is able to participate on both calls as a non-voting advisor. NSF has also been updated, and grant agreements have been approved by legal. Janice and our new Fund Manager Jenn are coming to Chattanooga March 21-24 to prep in person for these meetings, so that we are all on the same page for the reviews.

IoT * Gigabit

Last Friday, Katie and I met with our partners and dear friends at The Company Lab (Co.Lab), Chattanooga's non-profit business accelerator org. When we launched the Gigabit Community Fund in 2014, they put an educational technology spin on their "48 Hour Launch" weekend event and our most successful project to date - Adagio - came out of it.,

At our Friday meeting, Co.Lab's events director suggested that we put a Connect Devices/IoT spin on this year's 48 Hour Launch ("48HL"). Conveniently, they're looking at an August date, just as we had been envisioning for our IoT+Gigabit event! This is a wonderful opportunity to put a Mozilla spin and flavor on an already incredibly successful Chattanooga event that we can definitely learn a lot from.

There could also be a few wraparound events. For example, I've discussed with our local school district's Superintendent for Innovation the possibility of doing an educator feedback panel or roundtable to inform our IoT*Gigabit work. We could also use the opportunity of the large crowd gathered for 48HL to showcase Gigabit Community Fund projects as it will fall at the end of our program year.
