Please note that we will no be using these YouTube events for Sat/Sun, but using the Mozilla YouTube Channel-level stream (as agreed upon last month).

DEPRECATED MozFest 2018 - Dialogues and Debates – Saturday Audience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmmAr1W8ReA MozFest 2018 - Dialogues and Debates – Sunday Audience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhCPOzpLROY

This is the Mozilla YouTube Channel-level stream that is to be embedded into the MozFest page (same for Sat/Sun):

I made updated holding graphics for Saturday & Sunday based on some of the visuals from Dialogues and Debates this year:

@airmoandy you can download the PNGs (original and retina 2x size) exported from gdrive here: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1aceHgoM4QBJ6XdWCHPDhHlgPS3s3M78R

Thank you so much Sabrina!

QQ: What graphic would you like to use for the opening ceremonies on Saturday morning (4th floor)?

sabrinang commented 5 years ago

Oh I forgot about that one thanks for the reminder. It will be different from those two so I'll update this issue with another one as well.

sabrinang commented 5 years ago

I updated issue https://github.com/MozillaFoundation/mozfest-design-2018/issues/40 regarding the previous comment :)

Hey @airmoandy, was wondering when these graphics will be added to the youtube stream? It will inform when we add the button to show the live stream in the webiste.

airmoandy commented 5 years ago

@gideonthomas Since Marc wanted a persistent stream embed code, I need to use the YouTube channel-level stream rather than create live streaming events. What is viewed as a holding graphic on the channel-level stream is the Space Cat (placed by Mozilla marketing) until I start the live encoder with the appropriate holding graphic.

sabrinang commented 5 years ago

The two deprecated links above are still active, is there a way to deactivate them if we are not using them then?

I see the space cat placeholder and I'm assuming it can't be changed if it is the mozilla channels default holding graphic:

image

Is there anything to be left to be done then for this issue then @airmoandy?

airmoandy commented 5 years ago

@sabrinang I deleted the two deprecated live streaming events on YouTube. The Space Cat holding graphic is part of the Mozilla Brand channel graphics (you will find this on the channel header as well) and not something I can change. However, as soon as I start the live encoder in the morning, I will send the MozFest holding graphic. I was planning to start the all-day stream 30 min. prior to the first presentation (so 08:30 AM on Saturday).

Post MozFest Documentation

Since this was on the mozilla's youtube channel it was the default space kitty but since this a bit of a departure from the MozFest brand it may have confused audiences tuning in. @gideonthomas may have more details.

We used the two graphics as a holding graphic during the live stream itself though: image

After certain time in the stream in the venue, there was a period of time the mozilla channel was left on to display recommended videos after it was done. Unsure why it didn't display a holding graphic here: img_5943

Re: the youtube space kitty -- it was changed to the youtube holding graphic on the day of mozfest and taken down on sunday after the d&d series ended. We couldn't add the holding graphic permanently because it was on the main Mozilla youtube channel stream (something which we won't be doing next year) that is used for other live streams from Mozilla.

Re: holding graphic not being there in your picture -- there was some tinkering happening and it was left in this state (might be accidental). Again, something we need to fix process-wise.

airmoandy commented 5 years ago

The correct process is to use pre-configured streaming YouTube events. This allows customized holding graphics, while taking advantage of the significant audience traffic and monitoring of the Mozilla YouTube channel. Creating a separate channel will only silo the content and lower the audience attendance unless significant advertising is done. We just need someone to update the MozFest page with the player embed code for Sunday on Saturday evening.

Perfect! Thanks for the info, something we should consider for next year for sure.
