Description

Join me to learn how one area of the oil industry cut costs and improved security by implementing Open Badges. Tracking credentials, and ensuring they are current is crucial to heavily regulated industries. In oil drilling personnel need to be re-certified every three years and tracking this worldwide brings challenges. The potential for counterfeiting of certificates is high as the industry pay is lucrative. Open Badges are being used as evidence of license to practice as they can be secure and time constrained. Alongside this the secure delivery of certificates alone costs nearly £1m per year. Discover how we partnered with a global oil regulator to provide a secure, cost effective, digital solution to their problem.

Agenda

The session will look at how badges have usually been looked at as micro-credentials or recognition of informal learning, and how we have developed a solution to use the OBI as a high stakes credential. eNetBadges has been specifically developed to manage the Formal Learning process. Badging is used to certify candidates through summative assessment to measure achievement and gauge potential. This will look at why most Open Badge platforms will not provide the level of security required and how we have addressed this issue.

Participants

3 or 30 it doesn’t really matter; the message will be the same. This is not a hands on session but an opportunity for us to share our experiences and developments. Handling Q&A and discussion will need to be facilitated slightly differently depending on the audience size.

Outcome

This session will provide a starting point for participants to consider: How digital badges can provide solutions in unexpected places. Why secure forms of digital credentials are necessary sometimes. What the difference is between Open Badges on a global open platform and those generated by a secure OBI system. Generate thinking about how Open Badges can move forwards into other markets, and the potential of areas like encryption and Blockchain to provide a more robust and traceable record.
